IDRC update: Script/Treatment Draft

Blackout; Projector ON (video playing)

Stage: black pedestal sits center stage with aluminum case resting on top, closed

Screen: control room (CR) footage showing technicians adjusting themselves and equipment

Audio: background noise of techs setting up

Tech 1: Axiochronic relays active, readouts in the green.

Tech 2: Copy that.  What are power levels at?

Tech 3: Uh, 79 percent and rising.  80 percent.  83 percent.  We’re in the green.

T2: Ok bring up main power in the anti-stochastic chamber.

CUE: center spotlight (#__) on pedestal comes up to __%

T1: Transition chamber ready for clearance.

T2: All right, this is why they pay us the big bucks.  Go ahead P4 and enter the chamber.

Wireless Microphone ON; volume set at __%

 

Performer (P-4) enters lit stage area from (electronics lab OR main raw space door OR from behind column) and stands between screen and pedestal, facing audience.

 

T2: We are “go” at time index nineteen-thirty one.  Delta two-four-point-one-four.

P-4:  Copy that.  Commencing phase one.  Calibration in process.

 

P-4 opens case and activates something that brings up “live” camera feed on the screen, showing an over-the shoulder view of the pedestal.  (feed is pre-recorded and movements between P and screen are symmetrical)

We here someone in the CR barely mutter, “Oops.” T2 Response, “Don’t worry, it’s not a variable.” P4 continues to manipulate things in the box.

 

P-4:  Whatever that was, it just became a variable.  You know how sensitive this calibration process is.

T2: Right.  Stay on task.  Time index is now reading at nineteen-forty-eight.  Delta two-two-point-four-seven.

 

(CR activity and chatter, small glitches begin to appear, background clock shifts)

 

T3: Transtempometric readings are starting to come in.  Point-five.  Point-nine.  Point-fourteen.  Point-six.

T2: Good.  Commence to phase two.

P-4: Commencing to phase two. (a few moments pass as ‘adjusting’ continues) Singularity readings should be beginning to come in.  Primary detected at time index oh-seven-twenty-two.  Delta four-point-eight-eight.

 

(cheers from CR, background clock shifts)

 

T2: Confirmed.  Linear time index nineteen-fifty-three.  Delta two-one-point-three-one.

P-4: Primary singularity detected at time index oh-eight-thirty-four.  Delta four-point-two-nine.

 

(CR chatter, slightly audible)

 

T2: (hand over mic) Cut the chatter. (to P4) Confirmed.  Linear time index nineteen-fifty-six.  Delta one-eight-point-three-three.

 

(some moments pass where things start to get a little “wonky”)

 

P-4:  This is odd.  I’m detecting a binary singularity at time index forty-eight-ninety-one.  Hmm. Delta still reads at four-point-two-nine.  A little earlier than the model predicted, isn’t it?

 

(CR activity increases, more consulting and discussion.  Tech nods to T2)

 

T2: (nods back) The variables are still within acceptable parameters, though. Let’s move ahead to phase 3.

P4:  Commencing phase 3.  The incoming data is becoming more complex with this sequence of binary singularities.  Are you sure the systems can handle it?

 

(CR background clock shifts, more coffee cups appear)

 

T2:  I’m telling you, everything is still in the green.  The models did have a point-zero-four margin of error, which we have taken to account in the calibration phase.

T3:  Transtempometric readings are increasing.  Point-nineteen.  Point-nine-eight.  One-point-two-seven.  One-point-two-nine.

P4: Copy that CR.  Secondary singularity detected at time index thirty-nine-eighty-two.  Delta thirty-two-point-one-one.  That’s a little more in the comfort zone…

 

(screen glitches, background clock shifts, even more coffee cups appear)

 

T2:  P4, please repeat.

P4: Time index thirty-nine-eighty-two.  Delta thirty-two-point-one-three. (under breath) Uh-oh.

T2: Copy.  Linear time index at twenty-oh-seven.  Delta one-nine-point-three-three.

P4:  Secondary singularity detected at time index thirty-eight-seventy-two.  Delta twenty-nine-point-four-eight.

T2: Copy.  Linear time index at twenty-one-two-seven.  Delta one-seven-point-four-six.

T1: Transition chamber ready for clearance.

T3: Wait, look…what’s he doing in there already?

T2: P4, you haven’t received clearance for entry yet.  Explain.

 

(P4 looks at device and plays with some things inside, causing some audible distortion, etc)

 

P4:  CR, what’s your time index and Delta?

T2: We’re at linear time index nineteen-thirty one.  Delta two-four-point-one-four.  Why?

P4: My time index read is at forty-thirteen.  Delta nineteen-point-three-five.

T2 (to other techs): Didn’t the model predict this?

 

(CR chatter, reading screens, etc, tech nods to T2)

T2 (to P4):  Well it looks like we’re still in the green.  Lets continue to phase 2.

P4:  You mean phase 4?  By my time index we should be there.

T2:  Right.  All the data from both time indexes should be feeding into the transaxiochronometer.  Phase 4 it is.

 

(P4 adjusts dials and things, screen and audio glitches ramp up)

Blackout; projector remains ON

Light comes up slowly (3 sec ramp)

(screen glitches a little more, appears to stabilize)

P4:  Ok then.  Tertiary singularities detected at time index forty-two-thirty-one.  Delta one at two-two-point-eight-five.  Delta two at one-five-point-five-three.

T2: Copy.  Linear time index of…wait, this can’t be right.  Nineteen-thirty-two.  Delta two-two-point-nine-five.

P4:  It’s fine.  My chronometric array is still recording all the data.  Recommend recalibration and advancement to phase 5.

T2: Copy that.  We’ll trust your data readouts, P4; you’re the one in the anti-stochastic chamber.  Hopefully it’s still functioning the way it was meant to.
